My experience with Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive way to alter your brain waves. In people with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or OCD the brain waves, measured with an EEG, differ from normal people. The idea is that your neurofeedback provider can stimulate your brain waves by given small rewards. This could be increasing your brain activity for people with anxiety for example or decreasing your brain activity for people with ADHD.
I tried it to help me with anxiety issues and tinnitus. During a session, I wore a cap on my head with electrodes and watched a Netflix show on an iPad. Every few seconds the iPad screen turned black. This meant my brainwaves were off. The tv turned to normal when my brain waves were good again. This method is used the reward the brain if the brain waves are good.
I did about 13 sessions. Costing EUR 200 a session. Also, an EEG was required at the start of the therapy. This cost about EUR 450 extra. In total it cost me about EUR 3.000.
Although I find the theory behind it interesting and I believe in the idea. I did absolutely nothing for myself so I would not recommend trying this. At least not for anxiety-related issues.
